Every once in a while we stumble upon a real wedding that feels completely timeless, so much so that it could have taken place at almost any point over the past 60 years! Today's wedding, that of Martha and Sebastian, is a perfect example of this. The couple's style is not exactly retro, but simply chic and classic (you know we love a bridal jumpsuit!), while the floral and decor details were carefully chosen to compliment rather than overwhelm the beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces at Bellinter House. With Covid-19 restrictions in place, their wedding was small but, I think you'll agree when you see the photographs by Weddings by Kara, perfectly formed!
A German couple, based in Ireland, Martha and Sebastian have the cutest how-we-met story we think we've ever heard! Martha tells us, "We met at my 15th birthday party. He was brought to the party as by a mutual friend, but we only started dating about 3 years later."
Years later, Martha proposed to Sebastian, totally spontaneously! "It was in (the nightclub) District 8 of all places! It was fun, totally unplanned but it came straight from the heart and felt perfect for us," Martha says. "I dreamed about getting engaged for a while and has already looked at rings, and it felt wrong to wait for the man to finally propose. Why not ask yourself if you feel like you want to get married?" We wholeheartedly agree, Martha!
One of the couple's top priorities for their wedding was to keep things informal. Martha tells us, "It was important to us that we have a great time - no stuffy rituals, just what we feel like doing." The couple also wanted to use sustainable decor wherever possible. "All flowers were grown in Ireland and no plastic was involved," Martha says.
Martha tells us that she first encountered Bellinter House when she, her Mother, and her Aunt stayed overnight there shortly after she moved to Ireland. "During our stay, we witnessed two enchanting weddings (one intimate wedding and one bigger one), and we all decided that this is where I should ideally get married one day! Once I got engaged, I suggested to my fiancé that we visit Bellinter House for a short trip. We both loved it so much that we extended our stay and booked the venue immediately."
How fabulous is Martha's bridal jumpsuit by Ted Baker!? And Sebastian's deep blue Louis Copeland & Sons suit is an inspired choice! Martha tells us that the couple's wedding was, "a fun, relaxed, joyful, happy day, surrounded by the closed family. We had no stress whatsoever, and could soak in the day, from breakfast to dinner. As it was such an intimate affair, it also brought our two families closer together - something we still cherish and benefit from."
Among the special touches the couple included on the day were the unity candle used at the ceremony. Martha tells us, "It's made out of pure beeswax, and was bought by my Mother in Bavaria." Martha also wore jewellery gifted from her family members on the day - her "something old" was a bracelet gifted by her grandmother, her "something new" were the earrings gifted by her Aunts, and her "something borrowed" was her grandmother's brooch. Her "something blue" was her drop-dead gorgeous bouquet by the talented team at Fernwood Flowers!
It sounds like this wedding was a real family affair! "It was really special that all family members flew in from Germany and that we stayed in the same hotel for three nights," Martha says. "It was a really wonderful experience that lasted longer than just the day of the wedding."
Martha's advice to engaged couples is to focus on what's important to you and forget the rest. "Don’t stress over small details, such as colours of candles," she says. "You won’t notice on the day as it’s all about the people you invite." She also advises putting aside lots of time for getting ready, more than you think you'll need. "Without stress, it can be a wonderful bonding moment for the women closest to your heart."
This couple are also huge fans of the day-two party! "Ideally have an activity planned for the day after," they advise. "It was one of our highlights and extended the wedding feeling."
This couple's honeymoon was unfortunately postponed due to Covid-19. "We planned on doing a road trip from Bavaria to Italy, then to France (Provence) and finally to Zurich," Martha tells us. "We will have a big party next year, and plan to do our honeymoon then. We did visit Zurich this year as our tiny babymoon." Awh, huge congrats, guys!
Thanks so much to Martha and Sebastian for sharing their gorgeous wedding with us, and to Weddings by Kara for providing the beautiful imagery! There are even more photographs to swoon over in the gallery below.
