No Place Like Home: Julie and Ben's Back Garden Wedding

This Covid wedding is the ultimate home wedding inspiration.

2020 was certainly the year for making a marathon of wedding planning, but many like Julie and Ben proved that even when the rug is pulled it's possible to create a truly gorgeous and memorable wedding. Today's real wedding is a mega inspiring one for 2021 couple: Julie and Ben managed to create a wonderfully personal and totally gorgeous wedding ceremony and reception all in the comfort of their back garden. With lots of help from family and friends, the couple had the wedding many would dream of and all during Covid restrictions. Adam and Grace Photography were thankfully on hand to capture every detail which we know you'll all enjoy!

Julie and Ben's love story has been in the making for a long time. "Ben has been chasing me since we were 14 in high school," Julie reliably tells us.

And when it came to the proposal, it was like something straight from a movie for this pair. "We went on holiday a couple of years ago and climbed Glendalough and walked around Wicklow National Park like the film P.S. I love you," Julie told us. "So, we were going on another trip down south. Ben hadn't told me where we were going but said it was a surprise. We were driving down the direction of Wicklow and eventually stopped to go for a walk. As we were walking, it was raining and so cold and Ben went to get something out of his pocket and got down on one knee. The rest is history!"

However, while the proposal went to plan, the wedding didn't quite. "Originally, the venue was not our home, but with all the lockdown restrictions going on we wanted to just go ahead and get married," Julie told us. "There were so many decisions to be made and the summer was just flying by so there was a great level of uncertainty with everything we had planned."

The couple eventually decided to go for their home wedding but that didn't come without its difficulties. "There were times we didn't know if the home wedding would even be allowed to go ahead. But we kept going and settled on an outdoor, open-air garden wedding. We had the countryside and a wheat field as a backdrop so we embraced that and created a floral arch for the ceremony to act as the altar."

But that wasn't the only thing this couple incorporated to set the scene and the pair were keen to involve friends and family in making that happen. "Things that made the wedding so personal to me were the lovely signs that my sister Emma made for us, including welcome signs with our names and other pieces of decor. We had lots of references to Beatrix Potter and characters from Peter Rabbit, my favourite book as a child. We had lots of cakes and other decorations from our families which just made the day all the more special."

There was quite the interesting feature later in the evening which was surely a treat for everyone in attendance. "There was a surprise after the ceremony," Julie revealed. "A policeman came round to tell everyone off for sitting to close and that neighbours had complained about no social distancing. Then he broke out into opera singing and it was hilarious - and he was very good!"

While a foreign honeymoon was off the cards for the newlyweds, they did make the most of the honeymoon period. "We originally wanted to go to Greece or Italy but instead we went up the north coast and had a great few days holidaying up there," Julie said. "When we got home, we packed again and went for a few days to the beautiful Powerscourt Hotel and made the most of the stunning gardens! It's a place we can go back to and relive the memories too."

Thanks so much to today's couple Julie and Ben for sharing their stunning home garden wedding and to Adam and Grace Photography for capturing it all.
