Fall in Love: Yasmina & Evan's Autumn Wedding

A gorgeously moody and romantic day at Clonabreany House!

Today's real wedding proves that while summer and winter may get most of the attention when it comes to weddings, autumn really has its draws. Yasmina and Evan opted to hold their 2019 wedding in the autumn months and fully embraced the colour palette of the season. Choosing the gorgeous Clonabreany House as the venue for their ceremony and reception, they asked photographer Emma Russell to capture their beautifully moody and romantic day.

Yasmina and Evan met as many couples did - as teenagers at a Jay Z concert in Dublin back in 2006. Evan approached her and stole her hat as an opener before the pair went their separate ways. However, luckily for them both, they kept bumping into each other afterwards before moving their relationship to Bebo and MSN. The couple made it official on Halloween night after just weeks of talking. Ten years later, Yasmina and Evan got engaged on October 30th in Iceland, cementing the importance of that time of year in their relationship.

Classy and elegant - that's how the couple hoped their wedding would feel when they began the planning process. "We wanted dark and rich tones for the look of the day, a bit old Hollywood and gothic feeling," they told us. "We really just wanted our nearest and dearest to be well looked after."

The couple wanted everything to be in one place and settled on Clonabreany House. "We didn't want any of our guests having to travel between the day," the said. "Clonabreany has a beautiful ceremony room and our Solemniser Sandra Losty was a dream to work with. We're big foodies and we couldn't fault our menu on the day - we'd love for a friend or family member to get married there so we can experience it as guests."

The 14th-century Clonabreany House was reopened in 2009 after extensive renovation work was carried out by Principal Construction Services and conservation architects - work which won the venue Ellison Award from An Taisce, for excellence in conservation.

The couple had a spiritualist ceremony which was the first for many guests, "Everyone commented after about how inclusive and relaxed it was," they said. "We laughed and cried - we chose our readings and poems for our ceremony which were really special, and having them performed by our friends is something I will treasure forever. We had Seamus Heaney's 'Scaffolding' translated into Irish and read at the wedding as well as a passage from 'The Alchemist'.

Yasmina wore a beautifully ornate Pronovias dress and a Richard Designs veil from La Boda Bridal in Banbridge, while Evan wore a gorgeous deep green velvet suit from Kooples and a Tom Ford bow tie.

While much planning went into choosing every detail, it was having their friends and family around them that meant the most. "Ultimately, having all our family and friends there to share our special day was the best - it sounds cliche but there really is no better feeling than when we walked back down the aisle married and got to see everyone!"

The bridesmaids wore skirts and tops from Folkster to match the black and burgundy colour scheme, as did the groomsmen with a burgundy trim on their Burton suit jackets.

The couple ultimately enjoyed the planning process of their weddin,g so what would they say to others about to embark on the same thing? "Stick to what's important to both of you and not traditions. Be realistic with your budget and don't sweat the little things. Nobody is going to say this was the worst wedding ever because you didn't have a selfie mirror!"

We thank today's couple Yasmina and Evan for sharing a look at their gorgeously moody autumnal wedding, proving that embracing colour doesn't have to mean a pastel palette. Thanks also to Emma Russell for capturing the day.
